This is a busy week for me. I’ve attended back to back blogging conferences in Atlanta and now we’re leaving for Orlando where I’m moderating a panel at The Niche Parent Conference (#NicheParent14) on getting media attention for your brand or why. So why was I surprised that some weird bug caused A.J. to start coughing and wheezing at night?
Coughing and Wheezing at Night
I’m trying not to panic about the future of our trip or that scary enterovirus that’s making the news. But A.J. will be in on-site child care for part of the conference and I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if he made someone else sick. Note: he has no fever – just a cough. The the cough developed into wheezing. Both of those annoying symptoms have caused a few sleepless nights. A.J. has woke up several times this week to ask for water to soothe his throat or for us to hold him for comfort.
I wasn’t sure if he’d make it through the day at school. I started the morning with a breathing treatment with his nebulizer and he felt better. I emailed his teacher during the day to check on him too. She said he sneezed and coughed a bit, but no major complaints and he didn’t ask to come home. My fingers were ready to dial the pediatrician to get a last minute appointment. Maybe a steroid would help clear up his coughing and wheezing at night.
Then I remembered I’d just received Soothie Suckers in the mail to review. They’re the brain child of a mom who sought an alternative method to treat her child’s cold symptoms.
“Soothie Suckers provides great tasting, pre-measured herbal remedies formatted for children and packaged in ice pop pouches. Feel good fun for kids ages 2 – 92!” If you’re like me, you want Soothie Suckers to help survive cold & flu season. They come in two natural flavors – “are packaged in ice pop pouches and come in two natural flavors (Grape and Orange) for daily or seasonal consumption. These first formulas help support the immune system and the upper respiratory system.”

I placed a few pops in the freezer, picked up A.J. from pre-k, ran some errands, had dinner and offered him Soothie Suckers in grape flavor for nasal support. He was beyond pleased to taste them, then shared them with his teddy bear, Hickory.
During the Night
Imagine my relief when A.J. slept well with no coughing and wheezing at night. Thank you, Jesus! I need the rest, time to pack and get work done before our trip. And who can relax when you’re anxiously waiting for your coughing child to walk through your bedroom door? He slept so well he didn’t notice me turn the light on in his bedroom or the click from my camera.
The Next Day
Here is our healthy boy after a full, fun day at pre-k. He’s ready for Disney World! I’m bringing the Orange and Grape Soothie Suckers along for our road trip too.
