After School Art Project Inspired By #CreativeGalaxy #AmazonKids

After a six hour day at pre-k, A.J. comes home and he’s pretty wound up. His energy level is still high after playing, learning and reading with a class of 17 other kids. Do you find that your children are excited or tired after school? I was excited about the opportunity to get a sneak peak at a new show, Creative Galaxy that’s available exclusively with Amazon Prime Instant Video. The goal is to inspire creativity and exploration as kids follow the main character,  Arty, on his adventures. We also asked a friend to join us for an after school art project inspired by the show.

About Creative Galaxy

“Produced by Out of the Blue Enterprises with Angela Santomero (Blue’s Clues, Super Why!) serving as Creator and Executive Producer, Creative Galaxy is a make-along, create-along, interactive art adventure series for preschoolers. Characters Arty and Epiphany travel around the galaxy to solve problems with art, inspiring creative thinking through crafts, music and dance. To give kids and parents the real-life tools they need to re-create Arty’s experience, a live-action piece at the end of each animated episode will take viewers through the craft project that Arty showcased in the galaxy.” When I told A.J. we had a new show to watch after school he was excited to try something new. Once the character, Arty and the rest of his family (especially baby Georgia) hit the screen, he was drawn in. I watched and listed to A.J. talk back to the screen:

“Yes, I love art.”

“Look, pom poms!”

“There it is!”

The next thing I knew he was touching the screen to point out the colors Arty needed to complete his projects. Between each video featuring Arty, videos of real-life preschoolers creating art were featured. They showed children giving different interpretations of Arty’s creations, as well. Each episode of Creative Galaxy features a different theme. In this first episode, Arty wanted to create beautiful art for the local library to encourage reading.  You can watch the first free episode “Arty’s Masterpiece/A Home for Bunny” where the topic is: “After finding a space bunny out in the cold, Arty and Annie travel to Buildora and work with his architect Mom to build the bunny a new home.” A.J. After School Art Project

Inspired by Arty’s discovery of pointillism and A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by French painter Georges Seurat, we tried an after school art project featuring dots. Of course, A.J. and his friend started out inspired by dots, then did “their own thing” which is perfectly acceptable for preschoolers! Here’s an Instagram video of their giggles.

  1. Looks like they had a fine time with art!

  2. I am so going to have to look into this this week for my little ones. We have Amazon Prime.

  3. My kids are typically exhausted after a day of school. But my youngest son (9 1/2) always has energy for art. I wish this program had been around when my kids were little!

  4. My son is not really into arts and crafts, but my daughter loves to make things. This would have been a great program for when she was younger.

  5. Preschool are is my FAVORITE! Preschoolers and dots do go hand in hand. My girls love Dot Dots (like BINGO daubers) and making pieces of art out of them. In a pinch, they come in handy for BINGO night at school too! Creative Galaxy is something I will be checking out. Thank you!

  6. This looks super cool. I need to tell my cousin about this; would be perfect for her 4 yr old. Love the art craft, too!

  7. My son just started watching this show. He loves it!

  8. This is very sweet! I love that you started off inspired by Creative Galaxy, but allowed the kids the freedom to do what felt natural to them! It’s great when a program is able to inspire the parents along with the kids!

  9. Thanks so very much for this post. Hearing stories like A.J.’s inspires us to keep on putting out content that we truly believe in!

Keep on Creating!! & give A.J. a hug from me please
