Thanks for your comments on my revealing video: 4 Funny Signs I Had Mommy Brain.

Many of you suggested I take time for myself, which I already knew I needed, but no one tells moms how to take a break.

How do you take a mommy break?

Is your spouse/partner/family supportive?

Here are 4 Low-Cost Ways to Take a Mommy Break: (see more links below the video)

Here’s a recap:

  1. Ask your spouse, partner or family member to take your children for awhile. Take a walk, get a manicure-pedicure (try a Groupon or Living Social deal for a nail salon and read the fine print), leave your house. Don’t clean your house.
  2. Hire a babysitter or mommy’s helper. This can cost you anywhere from $5-15 an hour. This is a great option to have someone come by to watch your children for an hour or two. Take a nap. Read a book. Don’t clean your house.
  3. Plan a mom’s night out. This is one of my favorite things to do on a weekend. There’s nothing like a night that makes you feel like you’re single & childless again. A few weeks ago I went to dinner and saw the Pitch Perfect movie with @wefit2029   @crystalecollins   @niamassage. We had a blast!
  4. If you’re a stay at home or work at home mom in the Atlanta-area you can join me for a few hours at Bean Work Play Cafe in Decatur. It’s a co-working space for adults and play space for kids. I’m there at least twice a week. Bring your laptop or a good book. Sit back and relax for a few hours.

  1. Awesome ideas!! I gave a mommy (and dad) a break this past weekend while they went to the mountains. They loved it because they never get away together anymore.

  2. I am posting twice because I am not sure if you got it! Great ideas and I LOVE DON”T CLEAN THE HOUSE! We need the girlfriend getaway! We must regroup! Relax, relate, release!

  3. Great ideas. Going to a museum, finding a free or reduced price class that you can take, going for a swim at the Y, or going to the park sans your children are also some low-cost ideas for getting away.

  4. These are great tips. I have a hard time taking a moment for myself. I wish I had a second car cause I would totally join you.

  5. Great ideas! My toddler is in preschool 4days a week for 4 hrs a day, and that’s technically my time. But lately, I’ve been feeling the need to break away on the weekends and it seems harder and harder to do. Plus baby #2 is coming in December so I’m starting to feel like I’m running out of time to get in all the stuff I want for me. I’m definitely in need of a girls night, but nothing too wild that an 8-month preggo mom wouldn’t feel crazy doing!

  6. I also love the caution to NOT clean the house. Great tips, and a good reminder for those of us who can’t seem to find the time to get away.

  7. Great tips!! Don’t clean the house Oh yes!! LOL I guess we all are thinking the samething when it comes to cleaning the house. We need to relax sometimes!

  8. I COULD USE A LITTLE SOAK IN THE TUB WITH SOME WINE!!!

  9. Great tips! I could use a nap or two!

  10. I love the do not clean the house! Great tips! I need a Mommy break occasionally!

  11. I need to take a mommy break so bad!

  12. Awesome tips, Joyce! It’s so hard for mommies to get time to themselves. I’ve hear several mommies say that all they wanted was to be able to relax at home without having to worry about the children.
