Sunday Brunch with Jennie-O Turkey Breakfast Sausage #JennieO4Kids

Our family doesn’t always sit down to eat meals together at the dining room table. Sound familiar?

For Sunday brunch I’d like to start a tradition where we slow down and enjoy healthy meals like Jennie-O Turkey Breakfast Sausage.

Before I left for my local Walmart, I checked the Jennie-O Turkey Facebook page and found four coupons for their products. Unfortunately, only the frozen turkey sausage roll was in stock so I’ll check back to see when our family can try the bacon and breakfast links.

Adding protein like Jennie-O Turkey Sausage to my son’s diet is especially important since he doesn’t eat eggs, cheese or milk due to food allergies.

Too many American children don’t get a nutritious breakfast. The Jennie-O Champion for Kids program is designed to remind parents that “Children who do not eat a nutritious breakfast have a harder time focusing and staying awake in class, which can seriously affect their future educational and professional success.  Starting their day with low-fat healthy protein like Jennie-O Turkey Bacon and Sausage is a great way to help kids grow and succeed inside and outside the classroom!”

Turkey Croissaints for Brunch

I decided to introduce my son to Jennie-O turkey sausage and croissants from the Walmart bakery. He’s a sandwich freak so I figured they would be a hit.

I sliced the turkey sausage roll, fried it in a pan, then popped the croissants in the oven to make them crispy.

I buttered the croissant a bit, added the sausage then placed a cup of blueberries and strawberries on his plate to sweeten the end of his meal.

I have to admit it’s hard for me to sit down and enjoy meals with my son because I’m usually focused on making sure he clears off his plate. When I want to eat something he’s allergic to I usually wait until after he’s gone to bed to sneak in some eggs, cheese or nuts. But this time I stayed at the dining room table and got my husband to snap a few photos of us.

My son was pretty proud that his turkey sausage croissant didn’t fall apart. Since he likes to each sandwiches so much – it happens a lot. He’s used to eating sausage links. This was his first time tasting that he said looked like meatballs!

Our dining room and living room are essentially one large room where he can see the TV.  For meals it’s important to shut off the TV so he can focus on eating instead of what’s coming up on Nick Jr.

How do you make sure you children have a healthy breakfast?

Are there any Jennie-O recipes you think your children would like?

Will you “Make the Switch” to adding Jennie-O turkey sausage and bacon to your breakfast?

  1. I’ve never tried this! I’ve tried Jennie-O turkey dogs and really liked them, and I do like turkey sausage, so I’ll have to check it out.

  2. Oh my boys would loooove those for any meal! They look fabulous and making them with a leaner meat is even better.

  3. Those look yummy!!! We had eggs, bacon, and whole-grain waffles this morning! Love Jennie-O Turkey Bacon!

  4. What a great idea! That looks delicious and so fast and easy. I also like that it’s something you can grab on your way out the door. We’ll have to try this sometime!

  5. For the most part during the week, my children get oatmeal, cereal or waffles (with an egg). On the weekend (Saturday) my husband usually gets up and cooks a BIG breakfast. We all look forward to that. Sunday, we go to church to its back to what’s left over from Saturday’s breakfast or Oatmeal or waffles. I don’t cook a lot of meat for breakfast. So my children have gotten used to meatless morning (unless the hubby cooks). But when I do cook sausage, I usually like those links! I like to roll them up in a piece of bread and whaallaaaaa!!

  6. I like that you used croissants instead of bread making it like a breakfast sandwich.

  7. I LOVE brunch! That’s usually what we have on the weekends because everyone likes to sleep in! Great job! I love CFK projects!

  8. Yum! We do lots of veggie omelets in our house for healthy breakfasts. I know what you mean about mealtime, I’m always busy making sure everyone is good to go, and often end up eating last. I really treasure those times when we all sit down at once together.

  9. I workevery Sunday but this would make a great Saturday midmorning meal.

  10. This looks so delicious. Looks like you all enjoyed it. I might have to give it a try.

  11. My family eats turkey sausage all the time but we’ve never tried Jennie-O. I’ll have to check it out. Looks yummy.

  12. I use Jennie O’s ground turkey in place of ground beef all the time. The next time I am at Walmart I will check out these breakfast sausage items. Thanks for a great idea.

  13. I have never tried Jennie O turkey products. Since my family does not eat pork, this may be a good alternative.

  14. Never tried this, but looks tasty. Just the other day a relative gave my 1 1/2 year old daughter bacon. smh. this will be a healthier alternative!

  15. Oh my goodness, pairing sausage with a croissant sounds absolutely delicious! I haven’t had something like that in ages. I need to pick up some for breakfast!
