The easiest way to keep your child’s hands out of your snacks is to eat in hiding. Yes, you read it right.
This is my mom confession. I’ve eaten in the closet, in the bathroom and in the car just so I could enjoy my food without a sweet little voice and big brown eyes looking up to say, “Can I have some?”
Selfish? No.
Self-preservation? Yes!
It’s not that I don’t mind sharing. But sometimes I sneak things that my son can’t eat because of his food allergies. Ask any parent whose child has them and they can tell you how hard it is. Thankfully, our son can list the foods he’s not allowed to eat (milk, eggs, soy, chocolate, tree nuts and seafood).
He also knows that if he eats them he’ll get sick. But that doesn’t always stop him from asking for a piece of cheese. He also talks about peanut butter and jelly almost daily because he heard it on TV I think.
Back on topic… Picture it.
Your toddler is down for a nap.
Your stomach starts to grumble.
You remember the Farm Rich mozzarella sticks and breaded mushrooms in the freezer.
You turn on the oven, put them in a dish and nine minutes later you’re munching away.
Since my mother was visiting, I was nice enough to share with her.
She dipped her breaded mushrooms in marinara sauce.
I dipped my mozzarella sticks in it too, and then remembered the ranch dressing in the fridge. The garlic in the dressing and the gooey cheese went together wonderfully.
Check out the Farm Rich Recipes page for more snack ideas.
I enjoyed a protein-filled snack. Then went back to blogging and checking my e-mail while my son napped and he was none the wiser.
Admit your mom confession!
Where did you hide and eat you because you didn’t want to share food with your children?
Is there a Farm Rich product you’d be willing to share with them because you know they’d enjoy it.
My son is a carnivore so I see some Farm Rich Meatballs making their way into our meals.
Disclosure: I received complimentary Farm Rich Snacks to facilitate my honest review.
Oh I know we’ve all done that! My kids don’t even have allergies and I sneak snacks that I some times don’t want to share, lol. It’s usually some type of chocolate my hubby brings me home around that time of the month, lol.
Those mozzarella sticks and battered mushrooms look delicious, wishing I could have them!
This is to funny! My kids don’t have allergies but they are little food vacuums so I eat when they are asleep too;-)
I eat my oreos to myself they don’t eat the cookie and only lick the icing I don’t have cookies to waste so I eat when they go to bed. I understand the allergies thing though
I too smuggle food when my kids are outside or napping. I hide my snacks in a lockable mini fridge and a filing cabinet 🙂
I love Farm Fresh products! I have eaten in private, too 🙂
Hahaha, YES! How about turning your back to your kids and shoving the food or cookies in your mouth and trying to swallow before you turn around? LOL
Emily -I’ve done that too. Now my son is old enough to ask “What are you eating??” if I’m still chewing when I turn around!
No shame and no hiding, either! Annie swears it’s not fair that we enjoy a snack after she goes to bed. We tell her it’s one of the perks of parenthood. LOL
I guess I’m an old school mom, and will tell my child no, they can’t have it, but I can see how/why for the sake of quiet, peace & sanity that you would wait until they’re asleep to indulge. You shouldn’t have to lock yourself in a closet to have your favorite foods, though. Maybe a favorite allowable food they can have, so you can share snack time together?
I don’t know if you saw this on my FB status, but I bought J some candy one night; me, too. She was good with waiting until the next morning. However, as I was typing away I ate a Snickers. Ummmm… The next morning she gets up and the WRAPPER was still around. She asked me if I had eaten the candy. I told her, “No, the cat ate it.” She looked at me and said, “The cat didn’t eat it.” BUSTED!
I love Farm Rich mozzarella sticks, too. They sell them at Costco here so we have plenty for snacks. I don’t think I’ve tried the mushrooms, but they are now on my list.
This is hilarious and I feel your pain! I have yet to hide my snacking from my Alex!
I feel that as he gets older, I’ll definitely find ways to sneak!
LMBO! I love this! I snack after they go to bed. Not the greatest thing for my waistline, but it’s just short of my own ‘Calgon,Take me away’ moment.
I am cracking up about you eating snacks while your child is napping. I do that also on occasion, not because of allergies, but because between the four children, I would have none of my portion controlled snacks if I had them in front of my children.
So funny! My best friend and her hubby have five children, and she called me once from an ice cream parlor–without the kids! She sneaked out for a quick treat:) Definitely deserved.
I am not a mom yet but am LMAOOOOOO at this post. The visual is hilarious but I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do, huh?
My kids are in school now so I get the snacks I want to have in while they are in school or after they go to bed. sometimes while they are busy doing something else in their rooms.
Now THAT is a tasty treat!
I hide to eat, too. I’ve been sharing my food with Danger for the past five years now… It’s not wrong for me to smuggle a Kit Kat bar to the bedroom and enjoy it in peace every now and then. 🙂 Glad to see that I am not alone in this.
Glorious cookies and cream ice cream! I eat it in the parking lot of the grocery store if I have to! Because there is no way I’m going to tell that boy he can’t have ice cream!!!
You’re cracking me up!
