My hair has been through a lot. I’ve worn it naturally, with no chemical relaxers since May 2009. My last relaxer was right before my wedding. When I worked as a local TV news anchor, my hair had to be camera-ready every day. I had a chemical relaxer to straighten it, added color as well as highlights, and used heat every day to keep my layers looking on point. At times, the breakage was out of control. I also had a 2005 surgery that seemed to cause a “follicle setback.” Maybe it was the anesthesia. Maybe it was being forced can to lay in bed for weeks before I could walk without pain.
I’ve finally gotten into a groove with my natural hair. I have two go-to styles. For a more professional look I go to halo with symmetrical twists around my crown.
My husband’s favorite is when I wear Bantu knots on blow dried hair to give my volume. It’s definitely a more playful, fun style.
If you’re a mom, you’ve probably noticed a difference in your hair post-delivery even if you kept taking nourishing pre-natal vitamins. I suffered from serious shedding post baby.
