Disclosure: We received a complimentary stay at The Glenn Hotel to review and share this Atlanta staycation idea. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
For our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband finally felt it was OK to take a mini-vacation without our son. Mind you, I’ve been asking for an adult overnight stay for the last four years. But he wanted to stay someplace close so that in case of an emergency we could get home quickly.
The Glenn Hotel in Downtown Atlanta turned out to be an ideal location because of its luxurious feel, rooftop Sky Lounge, proximity to downtown restaurants and attractions, plus a lot more. It’s a part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection of hotels. You’ve probably driven past it several times on the way to Centennial Park or Phillips Arena for a concert.
Let me start by showing you the accommodations and view from our suite in this video.
Atlanta Staycation Idea
The Glenn Hotel
As soon as we checked-in Friday night, I had a brief interview with Anika Glenn, the Director of Sales. I asked what made The Glenn Hotel an ideal for an Atlanta stay cation. She said, “You can come here and go eat dinner. There are several upscale restaurants you can walk to. Have dinner downtown, do the ferris wheel, then come back to the rooftop and have drinks.” We took all of her suggestions!
Mrs. Glenn told me a bulk of visitors to The Glenn Hotel are here for conferences and events. To me the Sky Lounge alone makes it a great place for a staycation. You can hear live music and have a drink, then take the elevator back to your room or walk to another downtown location. As soon as you check-in, the staff asks if you’d like a signature cocktail. This summer it was a mojito, but there’s a cocktail served year round and even a custom “Glenntini.”
SkyLounge
As much as I loved our suite, my second favorite feature was the rooftop SkyLounge. Enjoy free wine at 6 p.m., along with a light appetizer menu. The views from the SkyLounge are amazing.
Before we left Saturday morning, I stopped at Glenn’s Kitchen for breakfast: blueberry pancakes and turkey sausage. This was a special request they fulfilled with ease since there are no blueberry pancakes on the menu. The food was perfection and the staff was very attentive. Since my husband doesn’t eat breakfast, he slept in and I got a moment to relax and be one with my thoughts. You can see the butter and syrup melting on the pancakes.
I finished the afternoon by headed to the Skyview Atlanta ferris wheel. My husband watched from the ground. Here’s my short video:

Never had opportunity to have a staycation but would love one with my man or heck even a Girls Night Out. I have however hung out on a few occassions at the Sky Lounge on the The Glenn’s rooftop. I absolutely love it the vibe is perfect…music and drinks are on point!
I’ve never stayed in a hotel near Atlanta. I guess cause I live so close, I never thought of staying the night somewhere nearby. LOL Cool idea, though.
I have passed by it many times, but never stayed. I definitely need to plan a staycation without the little one!!!
I love the thought of a staycation. I surely need one because I’m constantly busy and need time to kick up my feet and relax. I never knew about this hotel and it looks like a wonderful place to stay with great views. Thanks for the review!
It looks like y’all had so much fun. I particularly like the SkyLounge – great vibe even just from the video!
Sounds like a great hotel. I’m definitely interested now since reading your review. I would love to take a staycation in Atlanta, especially one with a view like this! The SkyLounge looks great. I was wondering if your husband was afraid of heights and didn’t want to get on the ferris wheel. 😉 The only reason I would get on that ferris wheel is because it is enclosed! If it wasn’t, I would not get on it lol. I haven’t been on it yet because it’s a little pricey. 🙁
Looks like a great hotel. One day, we’ll have a kid-free vacation. Because it hasn’t happened in over 7 years!
That Sky Lounge looks awesome!
I have heard of the Sky Lounge but not the Glenn Hotel. This sounds like a great place for a staycation.
Looks like a great place to stay! I will have to check it out the next time I’m in Atlanta! Thanks for the review!
