One of the first pregnancy books I bought was What to Expect When You’re Expecting. It was the quintessential guide to pregnancy back in 2009 when I found out I had a bun in the oven right after we got married. What to Expect When You’re Expecting is a New York Times best seller, spawned several spin-off pregnancy books and even a romantic-comedy film starring Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz. Although men can read the book and watch the movie, one dad saw an area where it fell short on addressing infertility from a man’s perspective. Finally, there’s a similarly titled book to help men cope with infertility in their relationship. Told from a personal perspective from comedian Marc Sedaka, “What He Can Expect When She’s NOT Expecting,” explains what to say and what NOT to say to a wife/girlfriend/partner who is trying to get pregnant.
I first saw Marc & his wife tell the Today Show their parenting story of using a surrogate to have children and how it inspired the book.
Although we didn’t struggle with infertility, I have so many mommy friends who did. Many became moms by adoption, in vitro fertilization and even surrogacy. All of these seem to focus so much on the woman and her struggles.
Do you think it’s just as hard for a man when he’s facing infertility with his partner?
Why aren’t there many books to help men cope with infertility?
What’s the worst/best thing you can say to a couple who’s trying to get pregnant?
Watch Marc’s interview with Red Book Magazine where he shared some of the emotional triggers for both partners who are trying to get pregnant.

This is definitely a book that is needed. Many, many years ago my husband and I dealt with the doctor telling us that I was infertile. I struggled with the news true, but so did my husband in his own way. This book would have been helpful.
