Taking a fall vacation to the beach with your family can be a fun way to save money, plus avoid the crowds and long lines.
Although we eloped to Savannah three years ago, I wasn’t really familiar with the hidden Georgia gem about an hour south. St. Simons Island is a laid-back community with about 14,000 residents and beautiful seaside views.
Last weekend, we stayed at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort for a post-Labor Day break to take a look at the accommodations from a family-friendly perspective.
Have you heard of St. Simons Island or visited the seaside community?

Fall Getaways at the King and Prince
Now through November the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort has some travel deals your family can enjoy, especially if your dates are flexible and you can visit during the week. Follow the King and Prince on Facebook and Twitter for photos and news.
Next week: Dining at the King and Prince
The King and Prince Resort just won First Prize for People’s Choice at the 2012 Shrimp & Grits Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival. Congratulations to Chef Jeff Kaplan and the dining staff.
Come back Monday for insightful interviews with the dining staff at the King and Prince. I asked them about the kid-friendly menu and allergen-free options. If you’re a do-it-yourself person, hear how easy it is to prepare your own food while you’re staying at the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort.
Disclosure: The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort provided complimentary accommodations and activities for my family to review.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love the GA coast, and have visited St. Simon’s for conferences with and without the kids. One morning I even had breakfast with dolphins! It’s a beautiful area. I haven’t stayed at K&P, but one of the conferences was held there. I found the staff friendly and helpful – and their dining room is where I had my memorable breakfast. Looking forward to some leisure trips soon!
Dr. Lisa,
I see a mompreneur retreat in 2013 in our future.
That was great! AJ is just too cute … looks like you had a wonderful time. I have heard of St. Simon and was given the impression that it wasn’t that great (of course, that was before kids) but after seeing your review – I’ll have to give it another look for a possible family getaway! Thanks!
Andrea,
St. Simons was such a friendly laid-back beach community.
Traveling in the Fall was ideal for my family – except my husband wanted to watch football all Saturday afternoon.
Looks like you guys had a great time! I love the beach, but taking all six of my kids at once makes me nervous. I’m hoping we can make it out next summer, and bring along someone to help with the kids and ease my fears. I love St. Simons but was not familiar with this resort before now. Definitely need to check it out!
Tiffany,
From my experience at the King and Prince terrace area, I think that would be ideal for your kids. There are age-appropriate pools as an alternative to letting them run free on the beach.
Wow imagine that…I lived in Savannah and had no clue about St.Simmons Island. It looks really relaxing. I would love to visit there. Thanks for the tour. I am certainly looking forward to the food video 😀
I know right. I would have loved to get married here. It’s way more scenic than Tybee Island which was “dirty” in my opinion.
In fact, I’d love for Antoine Sr. & I to do another GA staycation where we hit St. Simons and Savannah for a long weekend.
Looks like you guys had a great time! St. Simon’s Island is fantastic. can’t wait to go back again soon. We will definitely have to put the King and Prince on our list. How was the indoor pool? Do they provide all towels or do you need to lug 20 with you? What about beach chairs and umbrellas? Included or available to rent?
Joyce, this looks like it was a great weekend for all of you! Joe and I went to Jekyll Island several years ago and my parents were married on Tybee Island. Having grown up on a Gulf Coast beach, I personally don’t think any beach can compare, but that being said, you made it look like a fantastic place to vacation with or without kids! Can’t wait to see the food video next.
Considering I spent the first 22 year of my life on Long Island, I hear what you’re saying about loving the beaches you grew up with.
Since we don’t always have the $800+ for all three of us to fly to NY or Hawaii where Antoine Sr. went to college – this is a great beach for us to reach in one day.
Okay, rub the fall vacation in our faces why don’t ya! Just kidding….I can’t believe AJ is that big now!! Wow, time flies. Looks like you guys were enjoying yourselves. I had never heard of the resort so will def research it further for future travel. At least, I have a veteran I can come to for questions if I choose to go. 🙂

Great video Joyce! I can see AJ really enjoyed himself.
My husband and I have been dying to get out to Savannah but don’t know any affordable places. I heard it is beautiful
Wow that really looks like a lot of fun! Great video!
Great video! I’ve never been to the beach in the Fall, but this makes me want to go!!
Love the video!! We have been planning to go to King and Prince for two years. I will definitely check it out next fall!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Looks like fun! I’ve never been there or to any beach in the fall.
