Guest contributor Linda Edwards of Queen by Design shares her insight on the new season with simple spring pastel makeup and how to make it go from day to evening easily. (Linda also wrote simple holiday makeup tips for Christmas and New Year’s events.)
There is only one word you need to know for spring: Pastel. Wear them on your clothes, wear them on your toes, wear them in your hair, you can wear them everywhere! The weather is slowly but surely getting warmer, the boots are going back into hiding, and the bright colors are coming out to play. This season pastels are showing up everywhere from the runways to the streets.
The fun and playful hues are also perfect way to pep up your makeup routine. Bright shimmering shadows can easily be worn during the day for play-dates, at night time for a special date, and everywhere in between.
The pretty playfulness of pastels makes them easy to incorporate into a simple 5 minute make up routine. The picture above is my favorite shade of pastel pink by MAC (MAC Pigment in Pink Mauve). I based the entire eyelid with MAC Jest (base cream) and brushed the pink from the crease down, and in two simple steps (and less than 5 minutes) I am ready for the day!
Simple spring pastel makeup has a way of subtly making things fun and flirty. My favorite part of this look is that brushing MAC Expresso powder in the crease takes this look from day to night.
This simple look will work almost any pastel color. I love to alternate between pink and purple, and if I’m feeling daring I will even try a little blue. This season have fun trying bright, shiny, and even shimmering pastels like the one you see above. Always keep it simple when trying anything new. Have fun, enjoy the great weather while looking great in pastels this spring!
Style Note: Pastels of the same hue worn together are absolutely brilliant! For example: you could brighten up pink pastel shadow with blue or purple eyeliner to add a dash of fun!

I always like how this looks on others, but my eyes are super deep set and I feel like I look like a caricature. A silvery blue would look nice. 🙂
I am so ready for the spring colors – I think it’s time for a spring time overhaul and a mani/pedi for my and my daughter. Thanks for the great tips and a great post.
Thanks you!
I am so ready for spring! I’m going to have to get some pretty pastels to put on my toes.
