Meet My Favorite Professor, Lillian Dunlap #WomenRiseAboveIt

This post is brought to you by the makers of Pine-Sol® products. I have partnered with them to spread the word about the ‘When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It’ campaign and sweepstakes you can enter by visiting www.womenRiseAboveIt.com. All opinions and experiences are my own.

Lillian Dunlap, Ph.D

Think back to your favorite teacher or college professor. They connected with you, shared their own personal challenges and were concerned about your well being, not just your grades. For me, Lillian Dunlap, Ph.D, is my favorite professor. She’s an example of ‘When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It.’

Lillian Dunlap

Lillian had been a local news reporter and anchor before she held faculty positions in some of the country’s most prestigious journalism schools. I loved hearing her stories about working as a “street reporter” covering crime and breaking news.  She was “double minority” as a woman and as an African American.

Lillian has 40 years of media experience, including faculty positions at Poynter University and my alma mater, the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.

Lillian’s time a journalism professor is over and she now owns a consulting firm. She consults major corporations, universities and governments about leadership and diversity. When she stopped in Atlanta earlier this year, she was exploring opportunities to bring a major digital media conference to a university.

I admire Lillian because she strives for fairness and equality in the workplace. Her passion laid the groundwork for my career. See my story about the tough decisions I made in journalism school and my TV career, where I chose to rise above the challenges I encountered.
