Atlanta is warming up this weekend with two amazing 5K events that benefit children. The first event is the 7th annual 5 to Thrive 5K in Atlanta that benefits the Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) on Saturday, June 27th. The second event is the 1st Annual 5K Fun Run benefitting Camp Sunshine with Tropical Smoothie Café. I’ve got all the details you’ll need to attend or support them this weekend. “Since 1986, the Atlanta Children’s Shelter has cared for over 8,000 children and helped over 5,000 families.” To support its mission, ACS is hosting a family friendly festival and 5K at Piedmont Park.
Atlanta Children’s Center 5K Run/Walk
Date: Saturday, June 27, 2015
Time: 7:30 a.m. Registration; 8:30 a.m. 5K begins; 9:30 a.m. 1k fun run; 9-11 a.m. Family Festival with game booths, face painting, arts & crafts, popcorn, cotton candy, live DJ and more
Location: Piedmont Park (pet-friendly and stroller friendly)
Cost: $40 per walker or runner and includes a t-shirt
Registration: Online registration closed June 24th; you can register on-site. Trophies will be awarded!
Reality Stars Participate
The stars of Bravo TV’s new reality show, Mother Funders will attend the event and support the mission to end family homelessness in Atlanta. Mother Funders is based in Locust Grove, GA, and stars Robin Dyke, Amber Bryant, LaShon Thompson, and Shayzon Prince.
Sponsors include KBP Foods, Inc., Family Dollar Foundation, Herbalife, The Home Depot Foundation, the Suzuki School, and Georgia Piedmont Technical College.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s Camp Sunshine 5K
Tropical Smoothie Café is excited to announce the 1st Annual 5K Fun Run benefitting Camp Sunshine (located in Casco, Maine). It’s the only retreat in the U.S. that supports children coping with life-threatening illness in their immediate family. The $2,000 weekly fee for campers and their families is covered entirely by fundraising efforts.
