Mommy Talk Show Candid Conversation with a TV Mom
The Obama administration recently pushed to support moms who breastfeed. First lady Michelle Obama even visited Atlanta as part of her “Let’s Move” campaign and cited how breastfed children have a reduced of childhood obesity. The IRS just approved tax credits for the purchase of breast pumps and other pumping supplies. President Obama wants employers to allow moms adequate time and space to pump on the job.
Why would a president get involved in such an intimate matter? It’s because so many people and employers don’t support breastfeeding. I think it’s the most natural thing in the world. Sadly, our Mommy Talk Show guests have had some hurdles when it comes to breastfeeding in public and pumping breast milk while they’re at work. Listen in on our conversation:

I think the breastfeeding “battle” will go on forever. I remember one time I even got kicked out of church while breastfeeding my son… and I was wearing a nursing cover!!! Ignorance knows no bounds…

My colleague and I returned from maternity leave about the same time, and I found it difficult to pump in the ladies’ room. In an effort to make it easier for other new moms, we approached the vice president of our institution and requested the establishment of a lactation room. The university responded positively by creating a comfortable private room! Ladies always ask for what you want!
