Guest Post: 6 Survival Tips from The Stressed Mom

Survival Tips for Stressed Moms, moms survival tips, survival tips for working moms

{One of the ways I’m alleviating stress this week is by asking for help from guest writers like

Bernice Wood of  The Stressed Mom  who speaks from experience

as a wife, mother, grandmother and author.}

I write from years of experience, having raised 4 kids to adulthood. Does that mean I figured it all out? Nope. It simply means I’ve been there, done that. I did learn a few things along the way, and I like to try and help other moms reduce their stress to a tolerable level.

So many moms today are just EXHAUSTED. I know Joyce’s son, A.J. gets up before the crack of dawn! I pointed out “three reasons why moms are so tired. Are you guilty of any of these?

And many times you probably feel like you are running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Driving kids from here to there, groceries, doctors, sports and more. It’s easy to let life get too crowded, if you don’t choose to live intentionally. I asked “Are you cramming too much in your life?”  Could this be adding to your stress?

I have heard from many moms that are just frustrated because they can never seem to get anything accomplished. The kids always need something, and if it’s not the kids, it’s the husband or the dog. Sometimes our stress level can be reduced just by looking at things from a different perspective. Check out “Learning to work with the time that you have.”

Feeding your family can be a major source of stress. It doesn’t help that they need to actually eat EVERY DAY, and several times a day at that! I wrote a post sharing some quick and easy meals for those incredibly crazy weeks. They’re not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but kids don’t care anyway! Visit  “10 easy meals for busy nights.

Another reasons moms are so stressed? They never take time to do anything at all for themselves. They are on the bottom of their priority list. I encourage moms to MAKE time for themselves, even in small ways. I have some suggestions on “10 steps to a happier mama.”

I have lots of resources on my blog that may help you with certain areas you are struggling with visit The Stressed Mom Resource Center.

  1. I can so relate. But one vow that I made is that I would never allow my children to run me crazy with extra curricular activities. They do not have to be in EVERY dance class or on EVERY sports team. I trust what God has purposed for their lives and I don’t have to kill myself trying to make it happen!

  2. Great tips! Thank you. I am super guilty of trying to cram too much into my day. Evidenced by the fact I was in bed at 8:30 last night 🙂

  3. I’m going to have to read that post for the 10 meals! LOL I am always looking for quick and easy dinners!

  4. I’m definitely checking out the site, I’m a very stressed out mom these days! With the holidays coming, it’s only going to get more stressful. Thank you!

  5. I often feel like it’s hard to get everything done in one day. I know it’s because I keep setting unrealistic goals for myself. Now to work on setting more realistic expectations!

  6. We are definitely getting to a point where we have too much crammed into our lives, but the problem is that the “appointments” are elective. They aren’t “fun” but are necessary to help my daughter over come her developmental delays. And then you add in homework, work, taking care of the other two kids; it starts to get overwhelming.

It will be nice when my husband finishes his internship so he can help me juggle all the responsibilities and it won’t feel so stressful doing it all by myself.

    • Saying “no” has helped a lot.
I get requests to meet people for coffee and what they don’t understand is – that means I have to get dressed and leave my son.
Phone conferences work wonderfully, especially when I know you’re just trying to *sell* me something!

  7. So true and well written! So many out there don’t give us moms enough credit. “Well, what do you do all day?”

  8. I can definitely relate. And love all of the solutions to these mommy stressors.

  9. My little girl is only 2, so we don’t have too much on our schedule outside of the house yet… But we are crazy-busy here at home each day!!

  10. This is so true! I never really feel accomplished until there is less on my plate.
