[VIDEO] What is the Definition of Satisficing? #FiguringOut40

[VIDEO] Introducing #FiguringOut40I just learned the definition of satisficing this week. Yes, even a 39 year old can learn new words. Last week, I introduced Figuring Out 40, a Sunday series I’ve started because I’m turning 40 in a few weeks.

My 40 year old friend invited me to chat over coffee. When we started talking about life decisions mothers make, she introduced me to the word satisfice. First, I thought it was satisfy and sacrifice together. But I was wrong.

Satisficing is a verb that means “to act in such a way as to satisfy the minimum requirements for achieving a particular result” according to freedictionary.com.

Satificing is not about not striving to be perfect. In this video, I share how I had to satisfice this weekend when I attended the Refresh + U = Fabulous Conference for Women in Atlanta.

  1. Hmmm that’s a great word. You can have the best of both worlds and do things that fit everyone to make everyone happy.

  2. That’s an interesting concept that I haven’t heard of before. I can see how it can keep you from being too stressed out from trying to be perfect. However, when it comes to the workplace, can satisficing too much lead to complacency?

  3. I’ve never heard the word, but it’s the way I live. I don’t have enough time in the day (week/month) to do everything that needs/has to happen, so I do enough to satisfice myself and leave it at that.

  4. ThanK you!! You taught me a new word. I enjoy learning.

  5. I thought it was a combination of the two words at first also. I just learned a new word today YAY This is something that I have actually been working on. I am a planner but most often than not things don’t always go according to plan and that would normally freak me out. I am working on still planning but going more with the flow. Looks like it’ll come in handy when the kids come! Taking notes …
