How I Pick Guilt-Free After School Snacks + Giveaway

At the end of the school day, when A.J. hops into my backseat from the carpool lane, he immediately tells me about his day. I get to hear about his specials like STEM or PE, along with the school’s special events. But within seconds or sometimes minutes, A.J. is asking for an after school snack.

“I’m hungry.”

“What’s for dinner?”

“Did you bring a snack?”

I learned my lesson during his first grade year in his new school. Since his class ate lunch before 11 a.m., he’d often be very hungry by dismissal.

Some days I’m prepared with a guilt-free snack. Other days, I blow it and forget to bring something he can nibble on as we head to an after school play date or Cub Scouts. But before I hand over the goods, I ask him several important questions.

Did you finish your lunch?

My child is a TALKER. You may have noticed this from our YouTube videos (like the one below) and the way he takes over when we go LIVE on the Mommy Talk Show Facebook page.

He talks so much at school, especially during lunch that he often does not finish what we packed for him. Before I hand over his snack, I remind him to open his lunchbox and finish it first.

Did you finish your water?

We fill A.J.’s water bottle every morning before school. His class also visits the water fountain after their bathroom breaks. But I know kids often confuse hunger with thirst, so I remind him to finish his water bottle first.

Allergy Alert Labels

What would you like for a snack?

Like many 7-year-olds  A.J. would like something sweet for an after school snack. Often I bring him fresh fruit or his favorite cookie, Oreos.

Disclosure: We received Go Organically® Fruit Snacks to review, giveaway and promote the On-The-GO Road Trip sweepstakes.

This week A.J. tried Go Organically® Fruit Snacks to see if they’d be among his favorite guilt-free after school snacks.

I’m always reading labels to make sure what he eats is nut-free or contain anything else he’s allergic to.
