Does owning your own business live up to being your dream job? Webisode #2.5

What can help moms flex their creative muscles, earn money, work from home and spend countless hours with their child? Owning their own business, of course!

While it may sound like a dream, being a mommy business owner can turn into a nightmare if your business and personal demands aren’t managed well. Honestly, I’m still trying to find my way as a mom blogger and video producer. Too often I’m up late editing videos or not responding to e-mails in a timely manner. Instead of flexibility, I sometimes feel frustrated. But I also cut myself some slack because caring for my son comes first. He’s my “boss.” If I post a video later than I’d hoped the world won’t come to an end.

So I decided to ask our Mommy Talk Show guests, “”Does owning your own business live up to being your dream job?” Their answers will have you thinking long and hard before you decide to dive in head first as a momtrepreneur:

In summary, here are the suggestions from the mom business owners:

  • Take a manageable look at what you can accomplish, even if it means a smaller list of clients.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others. Create your own definition of success.
  • Work small. Think big.
  • Be patient. It may take awhile before your part-time business can turn in to something full-time.
